Our Story
Founded in 2006 by ten families, the Latino Family Fund de Gilroy enhances Latino philanthropic leadership and volunteerism in Gilroy. Inspired by research from founding family member Angie Aguirre, in collaboration with the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, the Fund bridges the gap between grassroots giving and formal philanthropy. It serves as an endowed donor-advised fund, fostering community integration and leveraging philanthropy to unite diverse groups.
Since its inception, the Fund’s endowment has grown from $10,000 to over $252,000, expanding membership from 10 to over 100 families. It has donated over $97,000 to 43 local organizations, provided $25,000 in scholarships, and awarded $24,000 to community groups through the Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program, engaging 750 youth in leadership and philanthropy.
Looking ahead, the Fund is committed to social justice for Gilroy’s Latino community, adopting targeted universalism. This approach sets a universal goal of a prosperous South County community while recognizing the need for direct support and investment in historically marginalized and underserved communities.
